The Build - First Floor
I know. You're probably thinking "wouldn't some ground floor walls be a good idea before building your first floor?" and yes, they would have been handy.

However, straw is a sensitive material during construction. Bales can cope with a bit of water from the sides but not from the top or the bottom. They must NEVER be allowed to get wet through as they will start to rot.

My plan was to borrow an idea from Amazonails, the UK’s straw bale pioneers and use the first floor as a temporary roof to keep the ground floor walls dry as we built.
